Job Summary: 

The Project Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the UBC Empowering the Next Generation Program, an initiative designed to support youth who face significant barriers to employment. This includes individuals from low-income families, marginalized communities, and those with limited education or work experience by providing them with the essential skills and practical experience in the skilled trades, enabling them to transition into apprenticeship or full-time employment. The program will adhere to the CSA Z301 industry standard for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Apprenticeship, aiming to dismantle systemic barriers and foster an inclusive environment. The coordinator will work closely with the Project Director to ensure the smooth operation of daily project activities, assist with participant case management, and liaise with stakeholders and UBC local training centres. This position is ideal for a highly organized individual with a passion for supporting youth in the skilled trades.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Support and Coordination:
    • Assist the Project Director in the day-to-day management and coordination of the UBC Empowering the Next Generation Program.
    • Help maintain project timelines and ensure that milestones are met according to the project plan.
    • Coordinate communication between project staff, participants, UBC local training centres and external partners.
  1. Participant Case Management and Support:
  • Coordinate and ensure timely delivery of participant program documentation and materials. 
  • Provide participant and UBC Local training centre supports.
  • Coordinate with UBC training centre staff and Local Coordinators for four week in class training and four week on the job placements for all program participants.
  1. Outreach and Recruitment:
    • Assist with the implementation of the program’s marketing and outreach plan to recruit participants, targeting individuals from low-income families, marginalized communities and those with limited education or work experience across Canada.
    • Develop relationships with industry stakeholders, UBC local training offices, and employers to support participant recruitment.
    • Respond to inquiries from prospective participants and provide information about the program.
  1. Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Collect and organize data on participant progress, including pre-and post-program assessments, and ensure data is accurately recorded.
    • Assist in developing and distributing evaluation tools such as surveys to gather feedback from participants.
  1. Training and Assessment Coordination:
    • Assist in the scheduling and logistics of training sessions, including supports for local training centers and coordination of materials.
    • Support participants in accessing program resources.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a project coordination or support role, preferably in a trades or apprenticeship-related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Familiarity with scope of UBC work in their province and market.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
