Company Description: The Carpenters' Regional Council (CRC) is the union that represents drywallers, carpenters and related trades in Ontario and Manitoba.  The origins of the union date back 145 years in Ontario.

Job Summary: As an Administrative Assistant, you will play a vital role, alternating between two departments, providing support to the WSIB Department and the Delinquency Control Department. Your responsibilities will involve assisting our experienced team, including lawyers, a paralegal, a WSIB Coordinator, and a Delinquency Control Officer. The WSIB Department aids Union Members with their WSIB claims, appeals, and related benefit applications, while the Delinquency Control Department manages the timely payment and collection of benefits (health and welfare, pension, etc.) on behalf of Union Members. This role is heavily focused on building relationships and necessitates strong communication skills, a firm grasp of data management, and the capacity to collaborate with various external clients, internal teams, Union Members, and Union employers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain ongoing correspondence with stakeholders, including Trust Fund administrators, Local Unions, Business Representatives, and Employers.

• Issue daily email communications to Employers, Business Representatives, Union members, stakeholders, and external business organizations.

• Monitor payment statuses.

• Manage enforcement matters from initiation to resolution.

• Work with and assist Union Lawyers and the Delinquency Control Officer, including drafting and processing grievances and preparing legal documents and applications as required.

• Handle docketing.

• Review and analyze daily reports, including Accounts Receivable.

WSIB-related tasks:

• Respond to Union members regarding issues related to WSIB claims, disability insurance benefits, employment insurance, and Canada Pension Plan Disability.

• Assist WSIB department in responding to inquiries from the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board and other government agencies concerning claims and appeals.

• Draft requests for medical records or other information related to a WSIB claim.

• Collect information for the implementation of appeal decisions.

• Assist with researching appeal decisions and reviewing medical information to support case preparation.

• Assist in completing forms in support of long-term disability and Canada Pension Plan Disability applications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 1-3 years of experience as an administrative assistant, preferably in the legal or professional services environment.

• Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong research skills.

• Ability to work independently, with meticulous attention to detail.

• Skill in prioritizing and meeting deadlines in a high-volume work environment.

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams).

• Strong relationship-building skills with a talent for establishing trust.

• Effective team player with a commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful completion of related post-secondary programs: Office Administration, Legal Administration, Law Clerk, Legal Assistant Program, or Paralegal certification.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance legislation and policy.

• Familiarity with Employment Insurance, private disability insurance, and Canada Pension Plan Disability.

• Experience in legal and medical research.

• Multilingual abilities are an asset
