Hydraulic Drillers
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Downtown Victoria
Pay Rate: $40.07 - 47.16 per hour (based on candidate's experience level), plus 12% vacation/statutory holiday pay
About the Role:
You are responsible for working with a team of other Shoring, Anchoring and Blasting professionals to operate the drilling equipment as needed on-site at projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide daily drilling support to the on-site team
- Responsible for daily production tracking and maintaining accurate drill logs
- Use drilling expertise to troubleshoot on-site equipment issues
- Train and mentor junior drillers and developing workers while maintaining quality control
- Ensure services are located and marked before drilling
- Assess and select appropriate tooling based on site conditions and job requirements
- Confirm site readiness, including space for equipment drop-off, layout setup, and safety compliance
- Conduct and verify pre-checks on all equipment, including drills, compressors, and grout plants
- Set up and position drill equipment with support from a Hydraulic Drilling Helper
- Ensure accurate drill alignment, including boom angle and drill positioning
- Perform Tie-Back and Blast Hole Percussion Drilling • Perform Seismic Anchor and Micro Pile Down-The-Hole (DTH) Drilling
- Operate various rigs including Epiroc Hydraulic T40, Ranger 800, and various Down-The-Hole drills
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory safety meetings
- Always maintain safe work practices per company safety standards
Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of experience as a driller, preferably in shoring or anchor installation environments
- Proficient in hydraulic rod and cased drilling
- Strong understanding of hydraulic drifters and DTH rotary head systems
- Proficient in drilling permanent, and temporary cased holes, pipe piles, and tie-back anchors through overburden, soils, and various rock strata
- Strong understanding of DTH (down-the-hole) systems and appropriate tooling selections
- Proficient in hollow bar (IBO) and solid anchor installations
- Strong knowledge of grouting principles, including quality control documentation
- Experience operating Limited Access DTH Equipment
- Experience with basic power and construction tools
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and ground conditions on congested jobsites.
- Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and mentor junior drillers
- Strong work ethic and a safety-oriented mindset
- Fit to work: able to see, hear, walk, stand, lift to 50 lbs, and work in deep, confined spaces
- Holds a valid driver’s license and can travel within the Province of BC
- Basic computer skills: experience with electronic timesheet entry (e.g., B2W, Hard Dollar) is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
